Tan Arulampalam

Consultant surgeon

Mr Arulampalam graduated from St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical School in 1992 and completed his specialist higher surgical training in London and a fellowship at the San Giovanni Addolorata Hospital in Rome before moving to Colchester in 2003.

A specialist in IBD and colorectal cancer, Mr Arulampalam carries out procedures such as major colorectal resections, endoscopy and minimally-invasive coloproctology, which is used to investigate, diagnose and treat colorectal conditions. He has special interests in complex abdominal wall reconstruction, minimally-invasive fistula and pilonidal surgery and laparoscopic surgery training.

Mr Arulampalam sits on the Council of the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons, the European Association for Endoscopic Surgery’s Research Committee and the Medical Board of Beating Bowel Cancer. His professional qualifications include a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree, a postgraduate MD degree and Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS).

Married with five children, Mr Arulampalam enjoys walking, cooking, travelling and cricket.
