Miss Gupta moved to Colchester in 2010 and is the hospital’s lead surgeon for inflammatory bowel disease. She specialises in laparoscopic surgery for complex and recurrent Crohn’s disease and surgery for Ulcerative Colitis including ileo-anal pouch surgery, as well as laparoscopic colorectal cancer surgery, proctology, general surgery and endoscopy.

Miss Gupta graduated in 1995 from St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical School. She completed her surgical training on the Cambridge rotation and specialist colorectal training at St Mark’s Hospital in London and a fellowship in Leuven, Belgium. Following this she was awarded a National Laparoscopic Colorectal Fellowship. Her professional qualifications include a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree, a postgraduate MD degree and Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS).

Miss Gupta has a special interest in teaching and has been involved in developing and running laparoscopic training programmes both in the UK and internationally with the Lapco organisation. She is a member of the Court of Examiners of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Ireland and sits on Consultant appointment committees as a representative of the Royal College of Surgeons. She is a member of professional bodies including the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland, the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland and the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons.

Outside of work, Miss Gupta enjoys spending time with her family, foreign travel and cooking.
