Ralph Austin

Consultant surgeon

Mr Austin moved to Colchester in 2002 after completing his training at North East Thames, in London in 1987. He holds a Master of Science degree (MS) and Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS).

Mr Austin carries out colorectal and bile duct laparoscopic surgery, and has a special interest in transanal total mesorectal excision surgery (TaTME). He also has a research interest in natural orifice surgery (NOTES), which is a scarless technique for carrying out abdominal surgery which uses an endoscope passed through a natural orifice, such as the mouth, rather than an external incision.

Previously a preceptor in laparoscopic surgery, Mr Austin now carries out training in TaTME.
