Mr Tutton graduated from the United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals in London in 1995, and then completed his surgical training in London and research training at the Institute of Cancer Research and the Royal Marsden Hospital. He has also completed fellowships at Mayo Clinic and Weill Cornell, both in the USA, as well as an European Society of Coloproctology Fellowship at the National Cancer Institute in Tokyo, Japan.

Mr Tutton was appointed as a consultant at Colchester Hospital in 2006 and is the trust’s clinical director for surgery and director for research and innovation. He carries out laparoscopic cancer surgery, coloproctology, laparoscopic hernia surgery, gallbladder surgery and emergency general surgery, as well as gastroscopies and colonoscopies. Mr Tutton has a special interest in transanal endoscopic microsurgery (TEM) for rectal polyps and early rectal cancers, while he is currently principle investigator for a variety of research projects.

Mr Tutton’s professional qualifications include a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree, a Bachelor of Science in Neurosciences (BSc) degree, a Master of Surgery degree, and Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS). He is an honorary clinical senior lecturer at the Queen Mary University of London, and a member of a variety of professional bodies, including the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland and the European Association for Endoscopic Surgery.

Outside of work, Mr Tutton’s interests include foreign travel and sport including squash, triathlons and cycling.
