At the July North Essex Stoma Support group meeting, we were delighted to have Marisa Conradie –Specialist Nutrition Dietician, complete a comprehensive presentation titled ‘Dietary Information for Ostomists’.
She covered The Anatomy and Physiology of the GI tract, absorption of Nutrients throughout, and Dietary intake in relation to each stoma type (Ileostomy, Colostomy and Urostomy)
Food related concerns including Blockages, Odour, Diarrhoea, and excess Wind discussed. She emphasized the importance of keeping hydrated and to avoid dehydration – especially Ileostomy Patients. Average output amounts were addressed.
