The Colchester Stoma Service team along with the North Essex Stoma Support (NESS) group hold meetings to help patients and their families living with a stoma. Meetings are held every 3 months in Colchester or Clacton. Everyone is welcome to attend. Meetings this year have included Chair Yoga with the Colostomy Association, a talk on the history of stoma care, and nutrition related to stomas.
As well as holding meetings peer to peer support is available, whereby patients who have been living with a stoma help patients who are about to have a stoma or have are starting to manage one.
The next meeting is on Friday 21st November 2018 from 6-8pm at Colchester General Hospital (please see above). Martin Reed will be speaking on ‘Adventures with my stoma: my cycle ride from Lands End to John O’Groats’. Tea and coffee will be provided and parking is free – park in the main car park and your ticket will be exchanged to allow you to exit for free. If you would like to attend, please rsvp to 01206 742009.
The following meeting is on 10th November at St James Church Hall Clacton and will be attended by the stoma associations (Ileostomy Association, Colostomy Association and Urostomy Association).
